CHAMPION
THE CAUSE
The Cost of Hunger
Communities, as well as individuals, can be profoundly harmed by chronic under-nourishment and malnutrition among residents. Adults and children distracted by hunger do not perform well on the job or in the classroom and may be sick more often than their peers. All of this can reduce a community’s economic productivity and strain its healthcare and educational systems.
Because hunger is a man-made condition, it can be reversed. Tarrant Area Food Bank, its network of partner charities and thousands of volunteers work at the most basic level to eliminate hunger for community members by providing food and nutrition education.
Because the underlying causes of hunger include poverty and the economy, we also encourage involvement in educating the community about local poverty and hunger and involvement in public policy discussions and communication with government policymakers.
