November 6, 2009 — A refigerator truck donated by the Walmart Foundation arrived recently as part of "Walmart Gives Back"--a holiday giving initiative throughout the nation by Walmart and the Walmart Foundation.  This gift included not only the truck, which is valued at $85,000, but also 12 pallets of Walmart's Great Value branded products and fresh apples.  Tarrant Area Food Bank's Walmart truck will be driven to Walmart stores to pick up surplus fresh and frozen foods being offered through the grocery retailer's Store Donation Program.

Tarrant County employees deliver 40,000 pounds of turkeys

The greatest number of turkeys ever donated to Tarrant Area Food Bank by any one community organization was delivered Nov. 2 in an 18-wheeler by Turkey Valley Farms.  On the unusually warm November morning, a caravan including two mounted Sheriff's Deputies and a turkey waving the sign "Eat more ham!" escorted the delivery truck two blocks to the Food Bank where Tarrant County employees and elected officials waited.

Since 2005, Tarrant County employees have donated more turkeys than any other group.  In 2005, 2006 and 2007 they contributed more than half of all turkeys donated.  Last year, another group gave them some competition, but County employees bested that group, with the County donation accounting for more than one-third of all turkeys received.
